Privacy policy
In short. TripTool requires no account, collects no personal data on any server run by the publisher, shows no ads and does not track you across apps. Your data stays on your iPhone.
Data controller. [Publisher name, address] — see the legal notice.
1. Location
Your location is used to show the map, navigate, record a route and warn you when you leave it. With your permission, it keeps being used while the screen is locked during recording or tracking. It is processed on the device and never sent to the publisher.
2. Camera and sensors
The camera is only used to overlay the compass on the landscape to sight a point: no image is saved or sent. Motion sensors provide the device orientation.
3. Data stored on the device
Routes, waypoints, tracks, offline areas, preferences and downloaded data are stored in TripTool on your iPhone. Your personal API keys (Météo-France, map providers) are kept in the iOS keychain. This data is included in device backups according to your iOS settings. Deleting the app deletes it.
4. Third-party services
To show maps, weather, tides, terrain, points of interest and photos, TripTool queries third-party services directly (tile providers, Météo-France, ECMWF, DWD, NOAA, Copernicus Marine, OpenStreetMap/Overpass, Wikimedia Commons, Apple Maps). These requests include the area or point concerned and the device’s IP address, like any internet connection; they contain no personal identifier. Each service applies its own privacy policy, available in the app under “Sources, licenses and credits”.
5. Sharing and export
A route is only exported (GPX, Garmin, other apps) when you choose to, through the iOS share sheet.
6. Contact and feedback
A “Bug or suggestion” message is sent from your own mail app. It contains what you write, your email address and technical details visible before sending (TripTool and iOS versions, device model, language, weather model). These messages are only used to reply to you and improve the app; they are never shared or sold. [Retention period, e.g. 3 years after the last exchange.]
7. Purchases
Any purchases are processed by Apple. The publisher receives neither your payment details nor your identity, only anonymous sales statistics from App Store Connect.
8. This website
triptool.app is hosted by Cloudflare, which processes visitors’ IP addresses to deliver pages and protect the site. The site sets no cookies and uses no advertising tracking. [If Cloudflare Web Analytics is enabled: cookie-free audience measurement with no personal identifier.]
9. Your rights
Under the GDPR, you can request access to, correction or deletion of your messages by writing to bug@triptool.app. You may also lodge a complaint with the CNIL (cnil.fr) or your local data protection authority.
10. Changes
This policy may change with the app; the date of the last update is shown below.
